Criminology and Criminal Justice Science
Profile - Criminology and Criminal Justice Science
Established in 2022, the three-year Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice Science program is designed to cultivate a culture of intellectual inquiry and academic distinction among students. The curriculum is firmly rooted in Sutherland’s (1924) conceptualization of criminology as the systematic body of knowledge concerning crime as a social phenomenon, encompassing the creation and violation of laws, as well as societal and institutional responses to such transgressions. Through this program, students gain a comprehensive understanding of criminal behaviour, justice systems, and the multifaceted processes of law enforcement, equipping them with the analytical, research, and critical-thinking skills necessary to excel in the fields of criminology and criminal justice.
Vision
To emerge as a premier hub of criminological education and research that nurtures ethical leaders, critical thinkers, and socially responsible professionals dedicated to fostering justice, equity, and safety in society. Our vision is to bridge the gap between academia and real-world practice by integrating multidisciplinary knowledge, cutting-edge research, and community engagement to address the evolving challenges of crime and justice in a globalized world.
Mission
Our mission is to deliver an interdisciplinary criminology education that combines academic rigor with practical exposure. We equip students with analytical, investigative, and ethical competencies through research, fieldwork, and industry partnerships. The department actively engages in community outreach and policy advocacy to address emerging crime trends and promote social justice.
Objectives
- Advance the criminal justice system by contributing to the efficient application and enforcement of criminal laws.
- Cultivate ethical and competent professionals capable of administering justice with integrity while upholding the principles of the rule of law.
- Analyze the complexities of crime by examining both traditional and contemporary criminal behaviors and emerging patterns of victimization.
- Promote crime prevention strategies through research, practical interventions, and evidence-based approaches to reduce criminal activities.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of the Criminal Justice System by exploring its legal, procedural, and administrative frameworks to prepare students for impactful careers in the field.
