Avichi college of arts and science organised the NSS Camp at Alapakkam, on the outskirts of Chennai city. The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The volunteers of the camp along with the program officer, Professor Kalpana Devi and other staff members of the college organised many tasks like teaching the values of life to students in the government school, in Alapakkam, through moral stories and poems. Volunteers, Identifying the needs and problems of the community and involving them in problem-solving, develop themselves a sense of social​ and civic responsibility which gains them skills in mobilising community participation, leadership qualities and democratic attitudes. Other activities include clearing the debris along the area, painting the walls with social messages, medical camp and veterinary camp. The camp also organised Self defence training rendered by the SDRA. A walkathon was organised to create awareness on the FIT India Moment and the importance of a Plastic-free environment. Our principal gave a motivational speech to the volunteers. A painting competition was organised fo the small children and professor Prabakar encouraged and appreciated their works, other who gave valuable inputs include, Professor K.V.Sanjeevi Babu former HOD of Gurunanak College, Thiru Yogesh and Thiru Raja from the media field. Every Student is well exposed and educated after the camp as, the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the
society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
